Victory in the new-look Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia continued a remarkable run in finals for Zinedine Zidane during his two spells as Madrid boss.
The Frenchman has now won all nine of the finals he has presided over, including three Champions Leagues, two FIFA Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and now two Spanish Super Cups.
When asked the secret behind his success, Zidane said: “I don’t know, this club is like that. We always want it.
“You need to have patience. We were up against a good team.
“You need to believe until the end and that is what we’ve done.”
Madrid will now turn their attention to the three other trophies they are competing for this season – LaLiga, the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
Zidane said: “We will continue working. We won today, we need to enjoy it, we’re happy.
“We have to travel, rest and then we’re back to playing again. We cannot think about relaxing. There’s a lot of the season left.”
Atletico are also still fighting on three fronts, although they are five points behind joint leaders Barca and Madrid in LaLiga.
