  • Prime Minister Tony Abbott says we 'should also remember Sean Abbott'.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott offered his thoughts and prayers to cricketer Phillip Hughes after the 25-year-old's death today.

He was struck on the head by a ball from pace bowler Sean Abbott while batting for South Australia against New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

He also noted that the public should show sympathy for bowler Sean Abbott following Hughes’ death.

Australian cricket team doctor Peter Brukner noted that bleeding to the brain following a blow to the neck was the cause of Hughes' death.

After an emergency operation to relieve pressure on Hughes' brain, the cricketer was induced into a coma but unfortunately his condition did not improve and he died.
