  • Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a landmark 700th career goal on Monday in the Euro 2020 Qualifier against Ukraine but the Juventus superstar was still left with a bitter taste in his mouth.

Ronaldo’s 72nd minute penalty was not enough to avert a defeat for the visitors in Kiev with Ukraine bagging all three points in the clash with a 2-1 victory.

The defeat left Portugal in a precarious second spot in Group B with Ukraine extending their lead at the top of the table to eight points. However, the group leaders have played a game more than their Portuguese counterparts.

Portugal now have Serbia breathing down their necks with the gap between the second and third placed teams currently standing at just the solitary point. The ramification of the loss was clearly felt by Ronaldo despite attaining a stupendous feat with the Portugal star disappointed to have ended up on the losing side in Kiev.

Speaking to reporters after the clash, Ronaldo expressed his pride in his team’s display on the night despite the loss. Read what else the 34-year-old forward had to say about his special feat and Portugal’s display in the video above.
