At 13 under par Hatton held a one-shot lead over Johnson, three-time champion Martin Kaymer, Tommy Fleetwood, Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Pablo Larrazabal, with the top 21 players separated by just four shots on a crowded leaderboard.
