Mumbai Indians bounced back from a loss in their opening match with a thumping win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday.

A brisk 80 from skipper Rohit Sharma helped the defending champions post a total of 195-5 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. It was a day to forget for the most expensive overseas purchase of the season, with Pat Cummins leaking a whopping 49 runs from three overs.

In reply, Kolkata never got going in the chase and were restricted to 146-9 in their 20 overs. James Pattinson and Jasprit Bumrah were the pick of the Mumbai bowlers, with both pacers picking up two wickets apiece on the night.

Young leg-spinner Rahul Chahar also chipped in with a couple of wickets from his four overs as Kolkata started their campaign with a loss.

After an innings which saw him breach the 200 sixes barrier in the IPL, Rohit Sharma was duly awarded as the player of the match.
