Mumbai Indians leapt to the top of the 2020 Indian Premier League standings with a 48-run win over Kings XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi.

Rohit Sharma led from the front for his side, with the skipper breaching the milestone of 5,000 IPL runs on his way to a fine 70 on the night.

However, it was the explosive finish provided by Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya that made the ultimate difference for Mumbai. Just when a total of 150 seemed to be on the cards for Mumbai, Pollard and Pandya sensational hitting in the death overs powered the side to 191-4.

James Neesham had a forgettable outing with the ball for KXIP, with the Kiwi all-rounder conceding a total of 52 runs from his four overs.

KXIP’s response with the bat was a shoddy one and they were unable to navigate the accuracy of Jasprit Bumrah and spin of Rahul Chahar. Bumrah claimed two wickets on the night as KXIP were restricted to just 143-8.
