Delhi Capitals climbed to the top of the 2020 Indian Premier League table after a 18-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah.

Delhi rode on a smashing 88 from skipper Shreyas Iyer to post a daunting total of 228-4 batting first. Prithvi Shaw chipped in with a fine half-century too in the Capitals’ big onslaught.

No bowler except Andre Russell was spared punishment for Kolkata, with Pat Cummins going for 49 runs in four wicket-less overs. Kolkata came close with their reply after fighting innings from Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi. However, they were unable to seal the deal and were ultimately restricted to 210-8.

In the first match of Saturday’s double header, Royal Challengers Bangalore notched up an emphatic eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan’s top-order failed to fire for the second game in a row, with Steve Smith’s men limping to 154-6 in 20 overs.

That total posed no challenge for RCB who rode on a fine half-century from youngster Devdutt Padikkal to register the win. Skipper Virat Kohli roared back to form as well with an unbeaten 72 while also becoming the first batsman to bring up 5,500 IPL runs.
