Royal Challengers Bangalore rode on a brilliant innings from AB de Villiers to overpower Kolkata Knight Riders by 82 runs in Sharjah.

The South Africa veteran was batting on a different surface altogether in what was a slow Sharjah pitch. His unbeaten 77 off just 33 deliveries propelled Bangalore to a total of 194-2 after a score of around 160 looked to be on the cards for a large part of the innings.

It was a bad day in the office for both Andre Russell and Pat Cummins, with the two pacers going for plenty after de Villiers took his toll.

The Knight Riders were unable to conjure up a decent response of their own in the chase, with Bangalore spinners Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal applying the squeeze.

The impressive Sundar snared two big wickets with his economical bowling, while Chahal had the number of KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik.

The win moves RCB level on points with leaders Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the halfway mark of the tournament.
