  • Jurgen Klopp acknowledged the fortunate nature of Liverpool‘s crucial 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, but points out that luck is part and parcel of the game after his side picked up three vital points in the Premier League title race.

With the game locked at 1-1 heading into the 90th minute, Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ blunder gave Klopp’s side the win, after he palmed Mohamed Salah’s tame header onto his team-mate Toby Alderweireld. The Tottenham defender was helpless to prevent the ball from ricocheting off of him and into the goal.

The moment came after Moussa Sissoko had passed up a good opportunity to put Spurs in front during a second half in which they dominated the game and looked the better side after scoring the equaliser, Lucas Moura canceling out Roberto Firmino’s first-half strike.

It was by no means a vintage Liverpool win, but it took Klopp’s side back to the top of the table, two points ahead of rivals Manchester City – though Pep Guardiola’s team have a game in hand.

“I told the boys after the game, there are 500,000 ways to win a football game, and today it was rather ugly,” Klopp said after the game.

“Without a bit of luck you cannot be in the position we are in.”
