Kenya's Kipsang was cautious about being over-confident as he prepares to defend his title.
"Coming back to New York this year as the defending champion, I think I really feel great and looking forward to defending my title – because coming back as the defending champion is something good," he said. "Winning a race like New York Marathon is not easy.
"My plan is to just keep a close watch on how the race will be handled from the start. Try to see how the guys are ready to handle it, if it'll be a fast race, then try to to keep a close watch and be ready to make any move. If the athletes try… or if anyone tries to make a move, I shall be ready for it."
Filmmaker Spike Lee was honoured to be the Grand Marshall of the 2015 NYC Marathon.
"I mean I got the call. They asked me to be the Grand Marshall," he said. "I had not even known there was a Grand Marshall for the marathon so… Knowing how much it means to New York City – and I've been a big fan of the marathon, the route goes through my neighbourhood in Fort Green, Brooklyn – so I said yes right away."
