  • Murray stepped up his preparations for 2017 with a couple of matches in Abu Dhabi this week at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

And it was a nice way for the Scot to round-off the best year of his career – in which he claimed the Wimbledon title for a second time, yet another Olympic gold medal and the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals to finish 2016 as number one in his sport.

And, as a result of those achievements, Andy will be known as Sir Andy from now.

Commenting on his impending knighthood, the future Sir said: “It’s a big honour to be asked. Great recognition of my results over the last few years and a great to start 2017. But I’m quite happy being known as Andy – that’s fine by me.”
