  • The 27-year-old, who recently captured three golds and one silver at the Rio Olympics, once again lived up to her Iron Lady nickname as she showcased her remarkable endurance at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

The Hungarian triumphed in the 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and rounded her night off with a superb showing in the 800m freestyle.

Her silvers came in the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

Hosszu is now well on course to win a fifth consecutive World Cup title having been in ominous form so far in the five stops of the 2016 series, including the current event in Dubai.

“The times aren’t important but just getting up, racing and fixing the little technical things are. Swimming six races is definitely challenging, especially having the 800m race at the end when you can barely feel your legs. But it’s just about going through it, pushing and really trying to do my best,” Hosszu, who leads the FINA/airweave rankings, told Sport360.

‘There were a lot of Hungarian flags and fans in the stand, that was really exciting for me to see.

“I first came to swim in Dubai in 2010 and the very first World Cup stop I ever competed in was four years ago in the city. It started off my professional career as a swimmer and it’s definitely a special place for me.”

Meanwhile, Chad Le Clos powered to two gold medals and rekindled his love affair with Dubai in the process.

The South African clocked 1:49.71 in the men’s 200m butterfly, finishing almost one second in front of nearest challenger Daiya Seto and at one stage a possible world record was within his grasp.

He then rounded off his evening’s work with a strong gold-medal winning showing in the men’s 50m butterfly – and beamed with joy on the podium.

“It’s more important for me to come here and get the wins, especially after the Olympics and getting two silvers as I wasn’t very happy with that,” he said.

“I’ve taken more golds here in Dubai than I have ever won anywhere else so it must be something about this place.

“I have good friends who I stay with and we have a lot of support, it’s great there’s a lot of South African expats in the UAE. It helps having a home crowd so to speak, it’s very nice.”
