The Swiss maestro had to undergo knee surgery shortly after his semi-final defeat at this year’s Australian Open – his last match of the 2016 season so far.
Federer was due to compete in Miami last month but pulled out due to a stomach virus.
But the seven-time Wimbledon champion has been ramping up his preparation on the red dirt in Monte Carlo this week with his coaching team.
