  • On top of the world: Australia celebrate their 2007 World Cup win.

The number four holds huge significance to Australia in World Cup history, it being their total title tally to date.

Co-hosts with New Zealand in thie edition, home advantage means that they are rightfully dreaming of a fifth crown.

The Kangaroos first won the tournament back in 1987 in their fourth campaign. West Indies won the first two in 1975 and 1979, while India lifted the trophy four years later to break the Caribbean team's stranglehold.

Twelve years separated Australia's first and second World Cup wins, with Steve Waugh leading his country to glory in 1999 and ushering in an era of dominance for the Aussies.

Two more trophies followed under the leadership of Ricky Ponting in 2003 and 2007 to complete an unprecedented hat-trick of world cups.

Another man who has fond memories of the number four is Sri Lanka quick Lasith Malinga, who is the only bowler in World Cup history to take four wickets in four deliveries. His efforts against South Africa nearly won his team the match in what would have the most remarkable comebacks of all time, but it wasn't to be for the slingy death specialist.
