  • Aspiring cricketers in the UAE will not want to miss out on the chance to pick the brains of one of the world’s best cricketers when top-ranked Test bowler and all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin holds a special masterclass in Dubai next month.

The 30-year-old Indian star will host a two-day clinic on December 23 and 24, as well as open the country’s latest institution – East Sports Management Cricket Academy (ESMCA) at GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail.

The sessions with the cricketer will form the final part of ESMC’s week-long clinic, which runs from December 17 to 24, and will be overseen by ex-Kenya coach – Andy Kirsten, brother of World Cup winning coach Gary, Frank Beckles and ESMC’s director of cricket Kobus Olivier.

“This is a great opportunity for the stars of tomorrow,” said Olivier. “Andy, Frank and myself are all Level 3 coaches and we will be working one-on-one and in groups with the children to improve their development.

“Later in the week, they will get a chance to learn from Ravichandran Ashwin, who has become one of the world’s best cricketers. Children must attend all the sessions if they want to meet Ashwin because his masterclass forms the week long clinic at East Sports Management Cricket Academy.”

Ashwin knows what is required to succeed in the game, with more than 350 international wickets and 2,200 runs to his name. And the star, who is in India’s Test squad for the ongoing series against England, cannot wait to link up with some of the UAE’s most promising cricketers.

“I am excited to collaborate with East Sports Management Cricket Academy and together we will look to set new standards in cricket coaching,” he said.

Open to boys and girls of all abilities, aged between 10-13, one lucky person will also receive a one-on one coaching session with Ashwin himself.

Kids, thus, have an opportunity to learn from a player who started off as a top order batsman but developed his bowling through sheer hard work and intense training.

Sessions will run between 09:00 and 12pm and costs Dh1,100. So, what are you waiting for?
