  • Kohli is expected to succeed Dhoni as captain.

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli took to Twitter to thank MS Dhoni for being the perfect leader for a youngster like him coming into the team.

Kohli made his debut in all three formats of the game under the captaincy of Dhoni, who resigned from captaincy of the Indian limited overs teams on Wednesday.

Dhoni had led India in 199 ODIs and 72 T20Is, which included victories in three ICC tournaments – ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Kohli, who has been the Test captain since Dhoni retired from the format in December 2014, is widely expected to be named the ODI and T20I captain later on Friday.
