  • Seeing red: Brett Turek.

After spending three years running the Dubai Barracudas’ offence, the 48-year-old is taking over for the Stallions following Anthony Daniels’ farewell.

The Dubai sides have been neck-and-neck the past two years, with the Stallions securing their first tit-le with a defeat of the Barracudas in 2015’s Desert Bowl, before Kyle Jordan’s men regrouped to pull off an unbeaten campaign this past season.

“The hardest one to sell was my daughter because she was like, ‘we have to wear red now?’” Turek said with a laugh.

“It’ll be real interesting going over in that cross-town rivalry that the Stallions and Barracudas have. Game days will be interesting squaring off. They’ve seen what my offence can do and I’ve seen what their defence can do, so it’s going to be more of a tactical game than just going out there, lining up and hitting each other.”

While the Stallions were a powerhouse in the first three years of the EAFL, they’re coming off their first season in which they failed to reach the Desert Bowl.

When asked what he wants to improve immediately, Turek ans-wered: “Just the basics.

“The big thing is going to be seeing who we have coming back. We’re definitely going to work on improving the passing game.

“They’ve had a pretty solid run game last couple seasons with Davion Miller back there.”

Aside from what he learned working with Jordan, who Turek said has “a great knack for bringing teams together”, the Stallions’ new coach brings a military background.

Prior to joining the EAFL, Turek coached 15 years in an intramural league with the Marines, whom he also played with for a couple years after high school.

“It helps me relate with the players,” Turek said. “You have to remember, you have multiple personalities out there and guys of different skill levels.

“It helps you find out what that player is about and how to get the most productivity out of him.”
