  • Stellar performance: Jets Football champions, Uptown School, won all their games in the competition.

Uptown School girls ‘A’ team had plenty to cheer about as Zoe Konti’s goal was enough to clinch the Jets Football title after a 1-0 win over Repton School ‘A’.

In a closely-fought final encounter against the hosts, neither side could find the breakthrough as the players intercepted passes and blocked numerous challenges.

    – On The Radar, March 23 – 29: Beach Volleyball & Sports Industry Awards

But Konti, who has been in fine form for her team throughout the season, was the hero.

She settled the final by scoring the goal which later proved to be the winner.

It was a deserved victory for Dubai’s Uptown School, who won all their games including a win over their ‘B’ team in their semi-final encounter.

Tight affair: Uptown’s girls (blue) fought hard to clinch the trophy.

With the tournament consisting of top sides across Dubai, competition was certainly going to be tough.

But having enjoyed a strong season so far, the mood in the camp was high and Uptown showed no signs of buckling under pressure.

The ‘A’ team, could not have asked for a better start to the competition.

With qualification to the knock-outs secured after wins over Kings' School (Al Barsha), Uptown kept the momentum going as Abdul-Jalil (2) and Konti sealed a 3-0 win against Greenfield Community School. In the semi-final against Uptown’s ‘B’ team, Abdul-Jalil added to her goal tally to seal a 1-0 win.

That result set up the title decider against Repton School  ‘A’ side, where Uptown later triumphed.

    Brighton’s valuable experience

Exceeded expectations: Brighton gave standout performances in athletics.

Brighton College may have missed out on a medal at the Under-11 BSME Games, but it was a worthwhile experience for the 24 students, who were competing in their first overseas competition.

Brighton were joined by 11 other schools from across the Middle East including Bahrain and Egypt for the three-day event in Qatar.

Despite missing out on the podium in each of the netball, football, athletics and basketball categories, they put on spirited displays at Asp-ire Dome. One of their highlights was the 11/12th place football play-off against MES Cairo where goalkeeper Darragh McSporran saved one and scored the decisive goal in the shoot-out to earn 11th place.

Squad: Salma Mohammed, Simran Moger, Emma Mollison, Emma Hill, Jaya Mitchell, Maddie Andrews, Luca Hall, Femke Van der Ham, Abbie Wright, Ruby Farrell, Maria Ines Lozano, Amelia Chisnall, Darragh McSporran, Dirko Prinsloo, Christian Perry, David Fiddes, Louie Reid, Lewis Chappell, Kaspar Ramneshni, Alex Ure, Caleb Maijeh, Max Jones, Benjamin Mehta, Kieran Thompson.
