Steve O’Keefe’s 12-wicket match haul helped Australia register one of their best Test wins in recent times as they beat India by 333 runs in the first Test of their four-match series at Pune.

After setting a fourth innings target of 441 for India, the Australian spinners were in supreme form once again – bowling out the hosts for just 107.

O’Keefe picked up six wickets and ended with bowling figures of 12/70 in the match which is the second best by an overseas bowler in India ever.

Nathan Lyon played a brilliant supporting hand, picking up the remaining four wickets.

Earlier in the day, Australian captain Steve Smith lived a charmed life en route to a century which will rank among one of the best of his career. On a pitch where most batsmen struggled, Smith scored 109.

This loss will come as a rude awakening for the Indian team, who were on an unbeaten 19-match run and hadn’t lost a Test at home in over four years.
