  • Root is England's key batsman.

Joe Root is all set to feature in the first ODI between India and England at Pune on Sunday.

There were doubts over his involvement as his fiance was expecting a child.

England captain Eoin Morgan revealed that Root became a father on Saturday which gives him enough time to fly to India before the Pune ODI.

“Yes, they’ve had a baby. He and his wife are healthy which is good news. And he should be ready for selection for the first ODI,” said Morgan.

Root is England’s highest ranked batsman in ODIs, coming in at the seventh spot on the ICC Rankings. The 26-year-old has 3017 runs in 78 matches at an average of over 45 in the 50-over format.

He was one of the few positives for England during their disastrous Test series in India recently, where they suffered a 4-0 defeat.

India and England are set to clash in three ODIs and three T20Is over the next few weeks.
